Kinja'd!!!

No matter how much I adore ragtop roadsters, I’d never pay this much for a 45-year-old car.

Still, I can’t deny the beauty. Especially yellow!

Any Midwest Oppos own a Triumph? Would be interested in taking a ride in one someday, because I think that’s as close to ownership as I’m likely to get.

See, it says “investment grade” and “rare opportunity”. Business opportunities are seldom a good reason to sink your money into an old car. In my opinion, the reason to pay that much for a car like this if you really, really want it.

Kinja'd!!!

You’re welcome to come visit my fleet north of Chicago.

76 TR6 2.5 makes GLORIOUS inline 6 sounds.

85 XJ6 4.2 purrs like a kitten and wafts down the road.

That is a wonderfully decorated driveway.  I’m guessing that picture isn’t from this morning.

Nope stock photo I keep handy and post whenever possible. I did sneak a the Jag out for a bit on Saturday when the roads weren’t too messy  before it snowed again.  Only takes a minute behind the wheel to remember why I bought that.

I haven’t been to Chicago for a few years, might have to make a visit next time I do. That, and see Miss Mercedes’ fleet of oddities.

I am in the midwest, but much farther west. Have a Triumph—if you are near Lincoln, NE, some time let me know.

Investing in cars is generally not a good way to make money. Investing in new cars is a pretty terrible way to make money. Investing in 46 year old cars that are already near the height of their collect ability is probably not much better. If you want to invest in cars (which I’m not sure is a good idea generally), you probably want to be looking for relatively intact and low (but not absurdly low) mileage 20-30 year old cars that most people would consider old junk now, but that could be considered interesting classics somewhere in the not too distant future.

I agree. It doesn’t seem like a smart way to make a living. Spend your time with used  cars because you love cars, not to get rich.

I haven’t been in that part of the country since riding RAGBRAI, and that was, oh, 34 years ago.

I feel old.

Odd facts about the TR6: the vast majority (90 odd %) were sold in the US. Only about 8 or 9,000 were sold in the UK.

Nearly fifty years on there are still in excess of 5,000 in the UK, combining those declared as being on the road and those temporarily out of use ( the proportions fluctuate from summer to winter).

That seems a remarkably high survival rate although you need to consider that many of those have been reimported from the drier parts of the US. The numbers are much higher than they were in the 1990s.

Further useless information: the TR6 and other Triumphs of the era were unusual in having fuel injection, but not in America because even then they wouldn’t meet emissions legislation.

Why didn’t I think of that!!! Wife wants to go rally crossing with Shop Teacher some time. I’ll have to ask him what’s wrong with it; I think it’s some kind of major engine problem.
